Obama’s First 200 Days

Obama’s been in office for the better part of a year. Time has moved fast in these first 200 days of the Obama presidency. Much has been accomplished by this administration, and much has been promised the American people by the Obama administration. Let’s take a look at some of Obama’s promises juxtaposed with what he’s managed to do in reality in his last 200 days as President.

Promise #1. Immediate withdrawal from Iraq.

As presidential candidate, with growing disdain from the people concerning America’s unlawful wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Barack Obama called numerous times for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq of US troops.

Obama even claimed that his first order of business will be to call in the joint chiefs of staff and direct them on a new mission to start bringing troops home and increase diplomacy.

The Truth:

Obama has ignored his many calls and promises to pull the US troops from Iraq. He first declared he’d have us out by 2010. Now he’s calling for a late 2011 partial withdrawal – so long as he finds conditions on the ground acceptable.

Despite Obama’s declarations Friday and the celebrations they have sparked on the liberal blogosphere, the Pentagon certainly seems to believe its forces may well be in Iraq after 2011. NBC’s Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszeswki reported on Friday that “military commanders, despite this Status of Forces Agreement with the Iraqi government that all U.S. forces would be out by the end of 2011, are already making plans for a significant number of American troops to remain in Iraq beyond that 2011 deadline, assuming that Status of Forces Agreement agreement would be renegotiated. And one senior military commander told us that he expects large numbers of American troops to be in Iraq for the next 15 to 20 years.”

Promise 2: Obama claims he was adamantly opposed to FISA (unlawful wiretapping of American’s phones, emails, etc) due to Americans’ civil rights being violated.

Here Obama says he’d support the repeal of FISA.

Obama has claimed that he’d support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies.

The Truth:

When the time came to vote on FISA, Obama voted in support of the secretive and illegal wiretapping of American citizens.

The program is still going on today, years after it was illegally put in place in 1978, allegedly for Foreign Intelligence.

Promise #3: Obama promises to dramatically increase the number of troops in Afghanistan.

Obama stated many times throughout his campaign that he’d increase the number of troops in Afghanistan to root out “terrorists” and “find Bin Laden”.

The Truth:

This is one promise he came through on. Innocent deaths have skyrocketed as a result.

Promise #4: Obama has promised he’d not have any lobbyists in his administration.

Whenever Obama said this on the stump, the crowd would eat it up. No lobbyists? Indeed.

The Truth:

Currently, Obama has around 30 lobbyists in his administration, including many from Goldman Sachs, who are one of his biggest contributors – and the biggest recipient of “bailout” funds of the banksters. Coincidentally, the Bailout is being run by Obama-appointed fmr Goldman Sachs execs. Goldman Sachs has to date given Obama nearly 1million dollars… nearly 1million invested with a return of billions of dollars from the government via the taxpayers? That’s a nice return on investment… completely deplorable, illegal and unconstitutional, but who really cares about these things nowadays?

Promise #5: The Public will have 5 days to review any bill that comes across Obama’s desk before he signs it.

Obama promised us we’d be able to review bills before he signed them into law. This would’ve been a great thing for a president to do for the people – and not too much for us to ask of him.

The Truth:

Obama broke this promise so fast and so long ago, it seems people have forgotten he ever made it!

Promise #6: Obama promised to support repealing the Patriot Act.

Obama said he’d vote to repeal the Patriot Act due to it’s unconstitutionality and the fact that the government could easily use these new powers against the American people.

The Truth:

When his time came to stand up for the right of the American people to NOT be treated like criminals, Obama voted for Patriot Act II!

Promise #7: Obama promised us that the “Stimulus Bill” would give banks much needed funds to enable them to begin lending again, and that this would spark our economy into a recovery.

Obama claimed that we’d reap many benefits from this banker handout – jobs, lower unemployment, more loans to the people, and a happier America.

The Truth:

Currently, the bailout has exceeded 23 TRILLION dollars, which is more than enough to pay in full every mortgage in America, leaving us all in homes for the rest of our lives, and the banks completely paid off. Rather than allowing taxpayer money to pay off the people’s debt, Obama chose to keep the people on the hook for their current debt and load on an additional 23 Trillion on the backs of American taxpayers!
The results so far? Joblessness is steadily rising. Banks aren’t loaning. Homeless rates are skyrocketing. The Fed refuses to tell the people where the money has gone, meanwhile Obama promises to hold the banks accountable, yet does absolutely nothing! The true tally of this debacle won’t be known for years to come. This swindle will undoubtedly break America.

Promise #8: Obama promises to uphold the 2nd Amendment.

Obama: “People have an individual right to own guns.”

The Truth:

* 1994 to 2001 – Obama was on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation. This foundation is the largest funding source for radical anti-gun groups in the country.
* 1996 – Obama supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
* 1999 – Obama proposed a 500 percent increase in the excise taxes on firearms and ammunition. This tax would effectively punish gun owners for buying guns and ammunition.
* 2003 – Obama voted in support of legislation that would have banned privately owned hunting shotguns, target rifles and black powder rifles in Illinois.
* 2004 – Obama voted against legislation intended to protect homeowners from prosecution in cases where they used a firearm to halt a home invasion.

HR 1022 has been introduced to the House. This is a bill that would allow Attorney General (Obama appointed) Eric Holder to add to the list of banned guns pretty much any firearm he deemed fit to declare “illegal”.

Eric Holder is a well known gun control advocate, with a record as strong as Obama’s in regards to flouting the 2nd Amendment Rights of Americans.

Obama himself said he supported a handgun ban in 1996.

Obama recently appointed Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Concerning the recently passed handgun ban in DC, Sotomayor and the Second Circuit held, “that the Second Amendment applies only to limitations the federal government seeks to impose on this right.” This is a classic example of fascist double-speak, wherein Sotomayor claims that rights are only rights so much as the government deems fit. Rights, by definition, are inalienable: incapable of being alienated, surrendered, or transferred.

I could go on and finish this sordid list with a #9 and a #10 – get into health care, cash for clunkers, or more of Obama’s foreign policy or his attempts to stunt the power of the states – but to be honest, I’m tired. I’m tired of people saying, “he’s only been in office ____ many days… let’s wait and see.

200 days is plenty of time – especially with Democrat majority rule in the House and Senate! Truth be told, Obama hasn’t wasted a second.

“Let’s wait and see”? I’ve seen enough. I’ve seen enough to know that Barack Obama is a liar and has no intention of doing what’s best for the people. Obama is continuing much of Bush’s failed policies overseas and at home, and he’s shown no signs of changing course.

I’m going to walk my dog and maybe talk with my neighbors while I’m still allowed the right to free speech (double-speak intended).

Have a good night. By the look of things, it’s gonna be a long one…
