Rachel Grubb is running for Indiana’s 3rd District Congressional Seat this election year. In preparation for this interview, Back in the USSA read up on Grubb’s positions and was happy to find that they are very much in line with Constitutional, Ron Paul-esque, pale0-conservative values. What follows is a recent interview we conducted with Mrs. Grubb:
BackintheUSSA: You are running to unseat current incumbent in Indiana’s 3rd District, Mark Souder. What made you decide to do this?
Grubb: As a lifelong Republican, I have noticed the way the political climate has changed over the last several years. What were once considered basic Republican values; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, have been corrupted with special interests and Non-government organizations running the show. Congress has abdicated several of their responsibilities outlined in the Constitution i.e the Federal Reserve coining money, the UN setting precedence over Congress relating to foreign policy, family rights, etc. This is something that needs to be addressed by our representatives and corrected. If our current congressman is voting 95% with party lines, how can he be trusted to stand up for the constitution? This, and the theft of the fruits of my labor to fund programs that I don’t support motivated me to stop being an armchair patriot and become an active participant in the political machine.
BackintheUSSA: If one were to add up the amount of money spent in congress via various bills in the last 6 years that Mark Souder has voted for, the total would be roughly around $3 Trillion. A good majority of these funds were allocated for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Banker Bailouts, and numerous Defense Appropriations, not to mention $5.7B for HR1388, the GIVE ACT. Looking at the sheer volume of money being spent, and where this money has been allocated, would you consider this a conservative approach to government spending? If not, what would you do differently from Souder should you be elected to represent the 3 rd District?
Grubb: I would not consider Mr. Souder’s voting record conservative in the least. If I am elected as Indiana’s 3rd District Representative, I would work to cease all foreign aid spending, to reduce and eventually eliminate entitlement programs (medicare, medicaid, etc.) to reduce military spending to eliminate private contractors from receiving any federal funds (they don’t conform to the rules of the military, why should they receive funds?) I would also work to return our monetary system to a “sound money” system , as envisioned by our founders. We can NOT spend our way out of debt. They only way to reduce debt is to reduce spending. Congress is spending like drunken sailors and need to be given an “intervention” so to speak.
BackintheUSSA: You are associated with the group “Retake Congress”. What can you tell us about that organization and why you chose to become involved?
Grubb: Retake Congress has the goal to eliminate all 535 seats in the House and Senate and replace them with statesmen who uphold the rule of law and guard the constitution against all enemies. They endorse a sound money policy, non-interventionist foreign policy and return to constitutional values.
BackintheUSSA: Many in the US are smitten with Ron Paul for his Constitutional basis, his willingness to buck the system, and his never-ending quest to END THE FED. If you were elected to congress, would it be fair to say that Ron Paul will have another ally in Congress? Why or why not?
Grubb: It is completely fair to say that I would be standing right with Ron Paul on his quest to End the Fed. For too long this private banking cartel has stolen the fruits of The People’s labor and inflated the monetary supply, and devalued the dollar to the point that the world banking associations are looking to dump the dollar as the standard measure of monetary exchange. A central bank was tried twice before the institution of the Federal Reserve and didn’t work then, so why would we think it would work now? The booms and busts that the Federal Reserve claimed they could prevent have not come to fruition. They have failed miserably in stabilizing the monetary supply and need to be fired.
BackintheUSSA: In early 2003, America invaded Iraq and engaged that nation in war. Now, nearly 7 years later, the US is still very much militarily involved in Iraq. Many politicians claim that Iraq is still unstable, and that we must stay there for many years to come to ensure the safety of the Iraqi people. What do you think of the initial invasion of American troops on sovereign Iraqi soil and what do you make of the argument that the world’s most powerful military has been unable to contain Iraq after nearly 7 years of occupying their land?
Grubb: One reason we have not been able to “win” the occupation in Iraq is because we have military personnel stationed in 142 countries in the world, they are stretched too thin and this has rendered them ineffectual. Iraq is a “sovereign” nation and therefore we have no business being involved in setting their policy or enforcing “democracy” through the barrel of a gun. The founders stated that our Republic should have a non-interventionist foreign policy. We trade and talk with other nations, but we don’t get involved in their private affairs. Iraq is perfectly capable of running their own country and should be allowed to do so.
BackintheUSSA: President Obama has pledged to ramp up military efforts in Afghanistan. If you were in congress today, what would you have to say to the President about the ongoing war in Afghanistan?
Grubb: Endless wars promote debt. If we continue to poke a stick at other nations, eventually that behavior will come back to haunt us. It is called “blow-back”. The military uses this term to relate to unintended consequences of military action. We will rue the day that we decided to become the policeman of the world.
BackintheUSSA: It seems that more and more, our country has gotten away from its Constitutional Roots. Do you have any personal feelings about this?
Grubb: Yes, the Constitution is an almost perfect document. We are fast becoming a null country, and that is disturbing to me personally. I want to live the American dream and want future generations to have the opportunity to live the American dream also. This can only be accomplished by a return to the original intent of the Constitution – A nation by the peoplek, for the people and ruled by the people.
BackintheUSSA: Congressman Souder has been in the news from time to time concerning his lobbyist ties. Do you plan on having ties to lobbies at any time during your service to the 3rd District?
Grubb: No. We have become a country ruled by corporations. This has been accomplished, in large part, by lobbyists. To state I am a Constitutionalist that will use lobbyists is contradictory in nature and goes against what I stand for.
BackintheUSSA: What would you say is the role of Congress? Is it defined by the Constitution, or by those who inhabit the halls of Congress, who seem to pick and choose their morals and rhetoric based on gaining votes/making money for themselves and the cronies who back them?
Grubb: The main role of congress is to protect the liberties of the general public. Congress has not only become the policeman of the world but also the policeman of the public. We no longer have the freedom to express dissent against the government(with or without merit) without fearing we will be locked up for that very speech. We no longer are allowed to carry firearms in public without fear of being illegally forced into submission. These core innate freedoms are GOD GIVEN – not man given, and certainly not allocated by Congress – and therefore cannot be taken away by men or by congress.
BackintheUSSA: Judging by your previous answers, it is safe to assume you support auditing the Federal Reserve?
Grubb: Yes, this private banking cartel is not audited by the public. They handle all money to and from the government, therefore MUST be held accountable for how they procure those funds and how they are allocated. Once audited, and the truth of how the Federal Reserve has handed over our trillions of our dollars to foreign banks, I am fairly certain, the general public will call for an end to this unconstitutional organization.
BackintheUSSA: What do you say to women who claim it is a right to abort, or kill, their unborn child? What of the poorer classes who cannot afford to raise their children?
Grubb: I believe in the sanctity of life personally, but believe the abortion issue should be given to the states to decide as outlined in 10th amendment to the United States constitution.
BackintheUSSA: What makes you qualified to represent Indiana’s 3rd District?
Grubb: I am a strong conservative, I believe in the rule of law and understand the importance of following the constitution to protect the liberties of all Americans. I have had first hand experience of the consequences of unconstitutional bills i.e NAFTA, the stimulus etc.
BackintheUSSA: When Souder took office in the 90’s he claimed that he’d only serve up to 12 years. Since then, he’s gone back on that promise. There are many liberals and conservatives who feel that Souder has gone back on many more promises than this! What makes you different? How can we know you’re not just another politician who will roll over as soon as you set foot in Washington?
Grubb: I am not a politician and therefore will not act like one. I am a regular person and being fresh on the political scene, I’m not subject to the frailties of spending too much time in Washington.
BackintheUSSA: What would you say to swing voters who are on the fence about Souder, Hayhurst, and the other candidates? Why should these folks vote for you?
Grubb: For too long we have allowed politicians and lawyers to set policy that doesn’t promote liberty and protect those God given rights set forth in the Constitution. Why continue to vote for more of the same? I believe the definition of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result” It is time to end the insanity.
BackintheUSSA: News reports indicate that unemployment in the 3rd District is rising. What would you point to as the main causative forces behind this and how would you go about assuaging them as our Congresswoman?
Grubb: NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, WTO are all implicit in allowing jobs to flow from the US at a rate akin to water through a sieve. These international agreements are detrimental to the idea of a free market. A truly free market will regulate itself. We have no need to micro manage something that will monitor itself. In order to stop the free flow of jobs from the US we have to first get the US out of the UN, then get the UN out of the US. We also need to withdraw from all NGO’s and repeal all legislation related to those NGO’s. This is a good first step. We also need to make it appealing to corporations to keep their organizations in the US. This is accomplished by tax breaks and other means.
BackintheUSSA: Is there any point that hasn’t been covered that you’d like to address?
Grubb: The government is put in place to protect our liberties, not to manage, enact laws or set policy to strip us of those liberties. It is high time the Congress and Senate remember their oath of office and protect those rights endowed by our Creator.
BackintheUSSA: Where can folks go to get involved with the campaign?
Grubb: www.rachel4congress.info. There are also strategy meetings every Thursday evening at 7pm located at Golden Corral on Lima Road. There is a glassed in meeting room in the back left corner of the main dining room.
Note: Indiana’s primary is April 05, 2010. Mark your calendars!
